Non-Partisan Research Projects

Return to Student Center Index of Topics

PresidentialElection.com provides the opportunity for students to engage in extended non-partisan political research projects. Some of these may be done as part of regular course requirements, others may be done as independent studies or Honors Projects, and still others may involve students as "research assistants" to faculty who are engaged in extended research projects of their own.

A key component of faculty involvement in student education is the opportunity for students to work directly with PresidentialElection.com on research. Our Student Center is particularly involved in non-partisan political research with students. A successful student will receive a Certificate of Participation upon completion of his/her assigned or selected Political Research Project.

PresidentialElection.com's on-line student center is engaged in research projects that lend themselves to varying degrees of student involvement and participation. Some current examples of research projects that may provide opportunities for student involvement are as follows:

Open Non-Partisan Research Projects

Note: If a student participates in a non-partisan research project, only their first name and school name initials will be listed. No last names, cities, or states will be listed. The student and teacher will receive a certificate of completion and participation with the actual names on the certificate, however, at no time will the full names of the students appear on-line. At all times, the student, teacher, and site coordinator at PresidentialElection.com know exactly who everyone is,  but the public does not know who anyone is. This is done to protect the identities of the students that participate in our non-partisan activities.

Open Projects

1) The study of how much money it costs to run for President

2) The study of voters in terms of their social class:  poor, middle class, and upper class. Their likelihood of showing up on election day. (We will give you our demographics of this site to get you started)

3) The study of how positive and negative media can affect a political outcome.

4) Revision of on-line Freedom of Information Act (Freedom of Information Act needs to be condensed into an easier more user friendly format and placed on-line where people can get the right information in just a few steps.

5) Suggest your own topic - We understand that some students are assigned specific political topics from their teachers and professors. PresidentialElection.com will work with you if you are willing to dedicate the time needed to complete your project.

6) Remote HTML Data Programmer / Researcher (5 available)

7) The study of illegal immigrants on society - We need a researcher to create a comprehensive list of the pros and cons of illegal immigration.

8) US Border Control - We need a researcher to create a comprehensive list of the pros and cons of Border Control.

9) Demographics of users on the Internet looking for Political Information - The researcher in this project will go through our web site statistics and audited demographics information and create a report on their findings. This will need to be completed every other month for the next year so the end users can compare how statistics change as the Election gets closer. (Open for Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov, and Jan 2008)

10) Remote HTML, CGI, and Database Programmer to work on Automatic Format for Student Center - We would like to create an open source format that allows our vision in the Student Center to be a semi-automatic system that uses checks and balances. (A resume is required for this project) Send to Students@PresidentialElection.com
