Fewer varieties of campaign buttons were issued in 1920 than in any previous election since 1896. In 1920, the Republican national committee supposedly bought the entire supply of celluloid campaign buttons to keep Democrats from making buttons. There are even letters written by Franklin D. Roosevelt (the Democrats VP candidate in 1920) complaining about the lack of availability of campaign buttons. Despite seemingly cornering the market on celluloid, there are only a few common Harding picture buttons and lithograph tin name buttons. Most other Harding buttons are scarce. (Hake) There are only ten known different Harding/Coolidge jugate buttons
